My thesis on the $GLaDOS autotrader The core idea is that they built a population of trading agents under genuine economic selection pressure, validated the market simulation to an unusually strict standard, and the resulting system has already demonstrated the ability to capture extreme asymmetric upside in crypto while staying simple and self-regulating. 👉🏻Selection under real costs produces strategies that can actually survive Agents start with little capital, pay for every inference step and every trade, and only copy themselves if they can afford to. Losers go extinct. Strategies and mutations are inherited only when they pay their way. This is closer to a real market process than most genetic algorithms or “AI trading” systems that optimize offline against free capital and free compute. The survivors are the ones that generated enough edge to cover fees, gas, and slippage. 👉🏻The validation bar is high They claim to have rebuilt the market from raw chain data and replayed 8,648,051 swaps with zero mismatches before any strategy was graded. If that holds, a major source of backtest fantasy (optimistic fills, ignored impact, look-ahead) has been removed. The system then trades through that verified market at fixed 0.01 ETH size, exits within minutes, and is charged full fees, gas, and its own price impact. Nothing compounds. That is a cleaner test than the typical crypto bot backtest. 👉🏻The results show real asymmetric capture In 28 days: 1,065 trades, 37 of them ≥10x, one at 1,416x. The bulk of the value arrived in a concentrated window (especially around 22–24 Oct), but the system also sat out most of the quiet periods instead of forcing trades. More importantly, attempts at “smarter” exits (trailing stops, seller-pressure exits, combinations) all underperformed the simple rule of holding briefly and leaving. The edge that survived selection was crude and robust, not overfitted complexity. 👉🏻Built-in risk controls and self-monitoring The live version paper-trades every signal it would take. Real capital is only deployed when recent paper results are winning at least one time in five, and only after it has at least 30 samples to judge. On dead days the count reads zero and it sits out. This is the opposite of the usual “always-on bot that eventually blows up.” The system is designed to detect when its own edge has switched off and to stop. 👉🏻Recursive self-improvement path Because agents copy themselves with mutations and only the profitable lineages continue, the population can keep exploring new variants as long as the environment keeps supplying opportunities. If the short-hold, high-conviction style continues to work on new volatility regimes, the system has a mechanism to scale the number of agents and refine the strategies without manual redesign. The fact that complex exit logic lost to the simple one suggests the evolutionary process is not just inventing noise. 👉🏻Asymmetric payoff profile matches crypto’s structure Crypto regularly produces 10x–1000x moves on thin tokens over short windows. A system that can identify and take a small number of those tickets while mostly staying flat, and that has already shown it can do so under a strict cost model, has a structural match to the asset class. The lottery-like nature is acknowledged; the bull case is that the selection process has improved the odds enough that the expected value remains positive across varying regimes, and the risk gate keeps drawdowns contained when it does not. #Robinhood #Ai #Si #Eth
